About us
Enforta was founded In October 2003 by a group of telecommunication industry executives with the objective of providing broadband telecommunication solutions based upon wireless and other state-of-the-art technologies in Russia’s regional capitals.
Fueled by a rapidly growing economy, Russia now ranks eighth in the world for its number of Internet users (see http://www.internetworldstats.com/top20.htm). However, broadband Internet penetration remains very low at less than 8% of the population. Early in the boom, Enforta's Founders recognized that there were few economic options for providing broadband service in Russia's regions, as the legacy telecommunications infrastructure was just too old to accommodate DSL or other ‘wireline’ technologies. Further complicating the economic viability of ‘wireline’ technologies, the projected subscriber densities in many cities were too low to justify massive cable investments. The Founders observed that innovations in wireless, powerline, and other technologies greatly reduced the cost of deploying broadband service. ‘WiMAX’ (or Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access), in particular, is especially well suited for Russia’s demographics since it is offers high price-performance and can be installed quickly.
In their annual industry survey, ‘CNews’ ranked Enforta the 24th largest telecom operator in Russia, the largest wireless broadband operator, and amongst the four fastest growing operators in the country. ‘UFG Private Equity’ became Enforta’s fifth institutional investor.
Though wireless broadband remains in its infancy both globally and in Russia, in six short years Enforta has risen to the #1 position within the Russian wireless broadband market according to ‘CNews’ April 2010 industry survey.
Like Wi-Fi, there are defined standards for WiMAX that have been jointly developed by the 600+ members of ‘the WiMAX Forum’ www.wimaxforum.org including Intel, Sprint, Korea Telecom, Samsung, KDDI, Clearwire, Ericsson, Nokia, British Telecom, Fujitsu, AT&T and others. Enforta is also a proud member of the ‘WiMAX Forum’.
Enforta is also a member of the ‘Wireless Communications Association International’ – the trade association representing the wireless broadband industry (http://www.wcai.com).
Enforta holds both the spectrum permits and telecom operating licenses that allow the Company to provide services. Further, just like cellular operators, Enforta is obliged to obtain the approval of the State Spectrum Planning Committee (‘ГКРЦ’) and register it with the Federal Agency for Communications (‘ФAC’) before beginning operations. Enforta holds spectrum permits in the 2.5GHz, 3.5GHz and 5.2GHz spectrum.
Today more than 40,000 enterprises and 25,000 consumers use Enforta services.
Enforta focused on Russia’s regional capitals as well as the two largest cities – Moscow and St Petersburg. Today services extend to 93 cities, including small cities in Moscow region:
